Witsand Whale Mountain Bike Race

Hosted during the Witsand Explorers Festival, the Witsand Whale Mountain Bike Race is a moderate race designed to showcase a spectacular section of the Southern Cape coastline.

Route Description :

The race starts at the Port Beaufort The Woolshed and sets out northwards along the R324 for 2km. It then turns right onto a gravel road before transitioning onto jeep tracks through Strandveld Fynbos and Renosterveld heading down to a coastal path along the top of fossil dune cliffs. During route scouting we have seen whales each time from this track!

Leaving the coastline track, the route then climbs through fynbos covered dunes and loops back to the R324, crosses over it and follows a loop through wheat and canola fields back to The Woolshed passing through Breedezicht.

Route Conditions :

The race is a 40Km loop with short start and finish sections on provincial roads before entering private property on a combination of gravel road, jeep track and livestock tracks through pristine Strandveld Fynbos and Renosterveld, finishing through wheat and canola fields.
